The present book miniature with the representation of the Nativity probably derives from a medieval book of hours which may have been executed in the workshop of a French book illustrator in the surrounding of the Master of Coetivy or the Maitre Francois. In both workshops richly illuminated manuscripts were executed for customers from the circle of the Royal court. The present miniature may have been done for a private patron in Paris at around 1470/80.
