Jean-Baptiste Pillement

King Stanislaw August Poniatowski of Poland was the most important collector of Pillement’s works. He appointed him “premier peintre du Roy de Pologne”. In 1778, Pillement became personal painter to Marie Antoinette, the French queen. He completed three paintings for her Petit Trianon. Pillement may well have been the most international exponent of the Rococo, and his works betray the lightness of this elegant age.
