[...] since the early 1960s, the history of shaped canvases has displayed a considerable variety of manifestations, all of which fall into the vast conceptual category of the ‘insufficiency of the canvas’ and the simultaneous fascination that the canvas is still capable of emanating. From Fontana’s inescapable slit to Bonalumi’s turgid swellings right through to Castellani’s surface iterations

[...] – each of them has testified to the ‘lack’ of a necessity and to a need to go beyond, without, however, denying their linguistic roots: among them, Simeti has chosen one of the most silent and least violent paths, opting for a more elegant and minimalist solution in lieu of a path marked by force and gestures.
