Anatomical Model of the Human Eye,

Anatomical Model of the Human Eye, - Source

probably by Auzoux Paris, 19th century, painted papermache and glass, on black turned wood stand. Height c. 27 cm. (WU)

“when compared with that deep and true music of the wise, whereby the proportions of natural things are investigated, the harmonical concord and the qualities of the whole world are revealed, by which also connected things are bound together, peace established between conflicting elements, and whereby each star is perpetually suspended in its appointed place by its weight and strength, and by the harmony of its lucent spirit”
Robert Fludd (1574 –1637)

For this catalogue, we chose to follow the ideas of Robert Fludd, a 16th century mathematician, astrologer, philosopher and a Rosicrucian.
He developed a mystically inclined theory along with the philosophies of medicine and science.
This was best illustrated through his concepts of the Macrocosm and Microcosm as the brain receives divine and imaginative images through the senses and the outside world. Each chapter in this catalog represents a step in the mind of this Paracelsian ancestor.

“All our knowledge begins with the senses, proceeds then to the understanding, and ends with reason. There is nothing higher than reason.”
mmanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason

All cultures have analysed and theorized about how our minds work, giving it a sense of independence from the rest of our body. All this wondering and imagining happens in our minds. At the beginning, we are form. We are, like Paracelsus said, an extract from all the stars and planets of the whole firmament.
