A rare two-tier cabinet, designed by Eduard Wimmer-Wisgrill in 1932
design for a "bridge room" in the exhibition "Raum und Mode" ("Space and Fashion") in the Österreichisches Museum (Austrian Museum) in 1932/33, coniferous wood, decorative two-door cabinet embellished with gold-leaf strips and decorated with an incised and gold-rubbed ornamental pattern, tall, black painted support, height 140 cm, length 133 cm, depth 54 cm. A unique piece that formed part of a suite of furniture for a bridge room, as is documented by a contemporary photograph by J. Schers, Vienna, in the archives of the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK). The photograph is inscribed on the reverse: Bridgezimmer/Entwurf Prof. Eduard Wimmer, Kl 13703/2/Entwurf Ed. Wimmer-Wisgrill/Bridgezimmer/1933, A 5855/27, as well as stamped MAK Wien.
According to the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), this "bridge room" was a model room in the exhibition "Raum und Mode" ("Space and Fashion"), on diplay at the Österreichisches Museum, today"™s MAK, in 1932/33. The picture "Room 4, Bridge Room, manufactured by Karl Teumer, XVI, Wilhelminenstraße 60" is reproduced in the catalogue accompanying the exhibition.
Original condition except for the central shelf of the base, which was added in the 1970s but can easily be removed.
