A unique piece that formed part of a suite of furniture for a bridge room, as is documented by a contemporary photograph by J. Schers, Vienna, in the archives of the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK). The photograph is inscribed on the reverse: Bridgezimmer/Entwurf Prof. Eduard Wimmer, Kl 13703/2/Entwurf Ed. Wimmer-Wisgrill/Bridgezimmer/1933, A 5855/27, as well as stamped MAK Wien.
According to the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), this "bridge room" was a model room in the exhibition "Raum und Mode" ("Space and Fashion"), on diplay at the Österreichisches Museum, today"™s MAK, in 1932/33. The picture "Room 4, Bridge Room, manufactured by Karl Teumer, XVI, Wilhelminenstraße 60" is reproduced in the catalogue accompanying the exhibition.
Original condition except for the central shelf of the base, which was added in the 1970s but can easily be removed.
