South West Germany, mid 18th century. A serpentine spruce desk veneered mostly in walnut with outstanding marquetry of maple and boxwood, partly dyed and burnt, with a leather-lined pull-out writing surface and a crank mechanism for the roll top, four interior compartments and gilt sabots. 120 x 102 x 62 cm.
