1898–1900 studied at the School of Sculpture in Horice, 1900–1904 spent at the Academy of Fine Arts, tutored by Vaclav Brozik, Vojtech Hynais, Hanus Schwaiger and Franz Thiele. 1903–1907 travelled to France, Belgium and Italy, and spent a brief period of time studying at the Academy in Antwerp. 1907/08 member of the Osma group (“The Eight”). From 1912 onwards he lived in France. In 1919 he settled down in Provence (Apt, Simiane). Between 1913 and 1916 he exhibited at Galerie Sturm in Berlin. From 1920 onwards he had numerous solo exhibitions in Paris and Prague. He took part in exhibitions at the Salon des Independants and the Salon des Tuileries. He was a member of the Umelecká beseda association from 1932 onwards. The title of “Merited Artist” was granted to him between 1952 and 1962, and he was awarded the Order of Labour in 1958. Kubin’s early work is characterised by his colouristic temperament and scarcity of form. The focus initially lay on the two-dimensional, decorate arrangement of the space (...) The works from the 1920s and 30s are captivating as a result of the precisely defined space composed of clearly arranged areas, the plasticity of form and a calm colour palette with warm and cool shades used in a balanced way. The paintings are not very large, but have a monumental, timeless character. The source of their own peaceful lyricism is even distribution ...
