“Like paperweights, balls carved with foliate motifs rest heavily on the far ends of the armrests. The motif of the vase of roses adorning the backrest is typical of the formal repertoire employed in the period after 1908. Matching chairs and a circular table were part of the interior decoration of the room devoted to the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry at the 1914 Cologne Werkbund Exhibition. A similar group also appeared in a reproduction of the entrance hall of Villa Rothberger in Baden, built by Prutscher around 1914.”
