A pair of Yomut okbash
(mixed lot), West Turkestan, each c. 72 x 58 cm, 19th century, tent strut covers, also known as igsalik (spindle bags), were sewn together into a sleeve using the points freed from the kilim; among Turkmen tribes, they would be used to cover tent struts for protection when carrying them, and were manufactured in pairs by the women as part of their dowry;
the present examples are unused, in excellent condition and without defects. (MA)
