A great Lobala slitgong, Ubangi region, R. d. Congo.
Wood, 237 cm long. This large bitonal drum is played by a drummer who can produce high or low sounds depending the side chosen. They are used to call the community and during ceremonies. This drum represents the water buffalo, large and impressive, showing the power of the chief of the village. (VJ)
