A Magnificent Lidded Vase with the Portrait of “King Albert of Saxony” Dresden 1828–1902 Sibyllenort Castle, Meissen 1885–1910, - Nábytek; starožitnosti; sklo a porcelán

porcelain, white, glazed, lid with crown and reserve with monogram held by amorettes, surrounded by shell rocailles, behind them palm branches, applied guilder roses and large sprigs of leaves, the facing side with seated bee, inside rim with flat flowers, baluster with moulded loops and circles, on volute cornice floats Fama on the right side, the Roman goddess of glory, opposite Flora, holding flowers in her right hand and a flower basket in her left, on both sides several sprigs of leaves with large and small blossoms, the mid-section with rays of sunshine and the head of a gorgon, the moulded portrait of Albert of Saxony, surrounded by laurel branches with fruit tied with a cross band, rocailles, on the left a small genius, on the side and back sprigs of leaves with large and small blossoms growing out handles and butterflies, round foot with turned fluting and arched border, sprigs of leaves with blossoms, total height 85 cm, body and foot height 64 cm, cover height 27 cm, the left wing of Fama with restored segment, a few blossoms and leaves with chipped areas, a similar cover has been supplemented, Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords mark 1885 to 1910, the first vase with a portrait King Albert was executed in 1885, model no. 98, model by Johann Joachim Kändler 1742 (Ru)

The shape of this vase is based on the original of the decorative vase with the relief image of Louis XV by Johann Joachim Kändler (1706-1775), c. 1741/1742. The original is in the Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden, inventory number PR 107.

Albert of Saxony, (Dresden 23 April 1828-19 June 1902 Sibyllenort). Enthronement on 29 October 1873. His full name is Friedrich August Anton Ferdinand Joseph Karl Maria Baptist Nepomuk Wilhelm Xaver Georg Fidelis, Duke of Saxony, from the Albertine branch of the House of Wettins, and was King of Saxony from 1873 until his death. ;
Albert of Saxony married Carola of Wasa-Holstein-Gottorp, only daughter of Prince Gustav of Wasa and Princess Luise of Baden, in Dresden on 18 June 1853.
