The present portfolio is a very high quality facsimile edition of the famous series of 20 etchings engraved between 1783 and 1886 by Chinese Jesuit students (Changchun Yuan shuifa). They depict European palaces and gardens, mostly designed by Giuseppe Castiglione, in Xiyang Lou in Beijing. The facsimile prints correspond to the dimensions of the original etchings and are printed on a paper modelled after the so-called ‘papier de Chine’ of the originals.
