“Josef Joachim, geigend”, 1906, etching with vernis mou on thick wove paper, signed F Schmutzer, probably from an edition of 100 impressions, plate size 22.1 x 22.3 cm, sheet size 30 x 30.1 cm, Weixlgärtner 85 III (of III), slightly trimmed and with occasional slight flecks, the front of the upper margin corners with browned remains of a former mount, framed, (RAC)
The first version of the portrait of Josef Joachim with the raised left index finger. Published in the 1906 Jahresmappe of the Secession. Schmutzer etched a second version with the lowered index finger in 1917 (Weixlgärtner 208).
