Gottfried Hofmann* (Krems 1894-1985), a unique plate, the body executed Wachauer Keramik
hand-painted depiction of a Wachau woman sitting on the steps of a wine tavern entrance in Dürnstein(?), signed and dated 1939, diameter 26.7 cm, without impressed factory mark, circular stand with holes for hanging. The painter and ceramicist Gottfried Hofmann studied ceramics under Michael Powolny and painting under Bertold Löffler at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. He also studied at the TH and the University of Vienna. In 1927, he displayed painted ceramics for the first time as part of the Wachau Artists' Association exhibition. Further ceramics were created in collaboration with Anton Mayer’s Wachauer Keramik.
