A typical men’s stool of the Mossi, from central and northern Burkina Faso (women’s stools are round). Made of wood, in the shape of a kneeling human figure. The flat, abstract head with ‘Cubist’ features and crested coiffure constitutes the handle of the stool on its short side. The seat is rounded on the back and decorated with a motif of geometric lines in relief.
A ‘classical’ object with very good patina as a result of long use. No damage.
First half of the 20th century; H: c. 16 cm, L: 32 cm. (ME)
