Globe table,
Made in the Empire style to a very high standard in the 2nd half of the 20th century and modelled after pieces from the early 19th century. A mahogany-veneered and polished spherical table, set on a naturalistically formed figure of Atlas kneeling, set on a three-sided concave shaped base. The table has the star signs painted in India ink on the hinged lid, as well as on the continuous border. The fitted interior has a mirrored niche and a red canopy, as well as sewing reels and various ebonised plaques and containers, underneath which are concealed various secret compartments. Height 88.5 cm, diameter 41.5 cm. In restored condition. (DOC)
