For this still life attributions to Jan Mortel and Isaac Denies have been suggested. On grounds of the residual signature, however, these attributions are untenable.
We are grateful to Dr Claudia Salvi, Paris, for suggesting Willem Fredericksz. van Royen (1645–1723) on the basis of stylistic comparisons and the remains of the signature.
