A comparable version of this work, which is monogrammed J.V.D, is in a private collection.
Jan van Dalem studied under Daniel de Middelaer at the start of his career (from 1632-3), and later he is registered as a master in the Guild of Saint Luke. His style shows the influence of Anthony van Dyck and Theodoor Rombouts.
