Francesco Battaglioli (Modena 1725–1796 Venice)

We are grateful to Professor Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome, for confirming the authenticity of this painting. Prof Sestieri’s certificate accompanies the picture.
Battaglioli, who trained under Raffaello Rinaldi, entered the Venetian Fraglia between 1747 and 1752. He was elected as a member of the Accademia in Venice in 1772. Some of Battaglioli’s Vedute depict view of the Spanish royal summer residence at Aranjuez. He was commissioned by King Ferdinand VI to paint stage sets for the Real Coliseo theatre.
