We are grateful to Professor Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome, for confirming the authenticity of this painting (certificate dated June 2011). Van Bloemen was highly esteemed even by his contemporaries as one of the most important landscape painters in the Classical tradition. His works were influenced by Gaspard Dughet and depict the beauty of Rome and the Campagna.
