The present lot likely depicts a corner of De Grote Markt in the Hague. It shows a poultry dealer to the left offering her goods to two ladies, illuminated by candlelight. In the stall on the right-hand side, fruits are offered to a buyer by candlelight, as a boy sits watching in the foreground, with a lady to the right. Between the two stalls, a man has been hired to push a wheelbarrow containing suitcases and a trunk. In the background, more people are walking to the market, while a lantern to the right illuminates the façades of the houses and the entrance to the street. There is also a light outside a shop and behind the fountain, while other sources of light are shown indirectly behind the windows and curtains.
