A Sideboard, - Nábytek, starožitnosti, sklo a porcelán

so-called “console dessert”, France, c. 1880, signed and dated Henry Dasson, 1881, high quality crafted oakwood frame with tulipwood and mahogany veneer, and decorated with ornamental marquetry panels with diverse precious woods, polished finish, rounded sides, two middle shelves, one drawer, gilt bronze decorative mounts and top edging, moulded marble top, 102x x 130 x 47.5 cm in beautiful professionally restored condition. Henry Dasson (1825-1896) was the greatest furniture maker and bronze founder of the 19th century in France.
He began his career as a sculptor and his bronzes stand out for their extraordinay quality matched only by Alfred Beurdeley and François Linke. In 1871, he took over the manufactory with all the founders and chasers from Charles-Guillaume Wickelsen, the leading cabinet-maker of Napoleon III’s era. He successfully participated in the Paris World’s Fairs in 1878 and 1889, as a result of which his production reached world fame. His studio was closed in 1894. His drawings, moulds and reproduction rights were auctioned to the greatest furniture makers of the time, including Linke, Beurdeley, Zwiener and Sormani.
