Vincenzo Dandini
(Florence 1609–1675)
Portrait of a noblewoman dressed in black,
oil on canvas, 102 x 80 cm, framed
We are grateful to Sandro Bellesi for suggesting the attribution to Vincenzo Dandini on the basis of a high resolution digital photograph. He dates the present painting to the artist’s late period of the 1650s or 1660s and suggests that the sitter’s clothing may denote that she was a member of the ‘Congregazione delle Montalve’.
