Mixed lot (7 items), Africa: ornaments made of silver, bronze and brass. - Tribal Art - Africa

1: A silver ring from Morocco: a hexagonal red gemstone (possibly glass) with an engraved crescent and 7 stars is encrusted on a round petal-shaped plate.
2: Dogon, Mali: a so-called ‘fertility ring’ with two tapering conical projections and a quadruplicate ring with nine smaller projections. Both made of yellow cast-alloy (brass) using ‘waste mould’ casting.
3: Lobi, Burkina Faso: a ‘bell ring’ with a double hoop onto which a 5 cm handle with a jingle bell at its upper end. In addition, a ‘chameleon ring’ with a standing chameleon placed across it. Both objects made of yellow cast-alloy (brass) and bronze (in the case of the chameleon ring). Executed with ‘waste mould’ casting. ‘Chameleon rings’ are also worn by the men of the Senufo people.
4: Maasai, Kenya, Tanzania: two flat spirals made of thick brass wire. They were worn by Maasai women formerly as ear pendant and later (to this day) as a sign of maternity – fastened with a leather strap side by side on the chest. Diameter: each c. 10 cm. All seven objects show good old traces of usage and are undamaged. 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. (ME)
