Kawase Hasui (1883-1957), woodblock print, aiban tate-e
From the series ‘Nihon fukei senshu’ (Selected Views of Japan). Title ‘Amakusa Hondo Gion-bashi’ (The Gion bridge in Hondo, Amakusa). A young woman with a bundle of radishes stands at the river bank and watches passing swans. Signed: Hasui. Seal: Kawase. Date: Taisho 13 (1924). No publisher mark, but published by Watanabe Shosaburo. The missing publisher mark occurs more often in this print and does not indicate a late or posthumous publication.
Very good impression, still very good colours, slightly browed at margins and verso, left margin backed, traces of former mounting at upper margin verso.
