Ferdinand Knab devoted himself to the study of architecture for 2 years before moving to Munich in 1855 where he became a student of Ramberg and Piloty. Of note are his romantic architectural works with their dreamlike, elegiac mood. As court painter to King Ludwig ll of Bavaria he contributed to many wall paintings, including those at the Residenz in Munich, the Nymphenburg, Spey cathedral, and Nuremburg castle.
