Christian Friedrich Mali - 19th Century Paintings

Christian Friedrich Mali was taught to paint by his brother-in-law, the Dutch landscape painter Pieter Francis Peters. In 1857 he went to Munich where he enjoyed success with genre style views of Swabia and Franconia. He also spent time in Italy and Paris. Together with his painter friend Braith, he built a large studio building in 1870/71, the so-called Schwabenburg. Mali received many awards, amongst them the title of professor, conferred upon him by the King of Württemberg. Mali’s landscapes are mostly populated by cows and sheep; depicted in soft colours, they project a peaceful atmosphere.
