The present painting comes with a certificate issued by E. Bernt (1990).

Willem van Mieris, a student of his father, Frans van Mieris, was one of the last Leiden Fijnschilders. He mostly painted small interiors featuring vegetable and poultry vendors or music-making parties. His elegant ladies have small heads, and their bodies are modelled after the academic beauty ideal of the time.
