Unusual nativity box,
A lavish scene with heavenly Jerusalem, fortresses and castles, with a painted heaven with God the Father, The Holy Spirit and Angel, with a landscape painting in the background. In the upper section with tiny figures ca. 2-3 mm depicting the Slaughter of the Innocents, Shepherds Sleeping, the Infant John, Zacharias and Elisabeth etc. In the lower section: the search for a place to rest, the stables as Roman ruins, the Nativity, the Shepherds’ offering. Clad in moss and bark. Salzkammergut with Tyrolean influences, circa 1800, 69.5 x 54 x 36 cm. Some age damage. (Ki)
