Bronze vessel, Wen wang fang ding cauldron
China, 17th/18th century. Inscribed in seal script to underside of base: ‘Lu gong zuo wen wang zun yi’ (‘The Duke of Lu had this box-shaped vessel made in honour of King Wen’) The vessel takes the form of an archaising fang ding, rectangular with four flat legs in the shape of stylised dragons. To all sides in low relief, a taotie on a leiwen ground, above which two dragons seen from the side. Height: 27.5 cm. (BA)
