Lit.: Glasgalerie Michael Kovacek, Glas aus 5 Jahrhunderten, Vienna 1900, Cat. No. 237, p. 274-275 Ill.;

The monumental woodcut work consists of 147 individual sheets and is based on an idea by Maximilian I, 1459- 1519, which he dictated to his secretary Marx Treitzsauerwein in 1512. The drawings were executed by artists including Albrecht Altdorfer, Hans Burgkmair, Albrecht Dürer as well as his pupil and colleague Hans Springinklee, who created 22 sheets, including the occupation of Lower Austria that is depicted on this goblet. This goblet was probably not created in order to serve as a reminder of the historic event, however, but on the occasion of the Vienna "tribute procession" on April 27, 1879. That procession was based on the historic example of emperor Maximilian's triumphal procession.
