Feshane silk,
Northwest Anatolia (Turkey), c. 193 x 145 cm, about 1900, from 1843 until 1914 palace factories for the production of carpets were active under the name “Feshane Palace Factory” in Hereke (where they still exist today) and in Istanbul on the coast of the Golden Horn, the early carpets display a baroque influence with large flowers and intense red, the present carpet is a classic representative of the Istanbul production with a prayer niche and a Western-style décor of blossoms and vases, consistent low pile with oxidised silk, finely knotted pattern with original ends.
