Krzysztof Lubieniecki

The counter of peas,
oil on canvas, 26.5 x 38 cm, framed
The Polish painter and copper engraver Krzysztof Lubieniecki learnt painting together with his brother Theodor under the Hamburg landscape and marine painter Juriaan Stur. In 1667 the two brothers travelled to Amsterdam, where, according to Houbraken (III, 329), Krzysztof continued his training under Adriaan Backer. He became well-known thanks to his portraits and genre scenes in which he developed the influence of Richard Brakenburgh and Adriaen van Ostade.
