porcelain, oval body with gilt and white rim, burnished gilt ground with matt gilt painted rosettes, palmettes and acanthus leaves, octagonal matt gilt picture frame with matt gilt arch frieze, containing the polychrome painted scene: ”Les filles d’Eréstée. D’aprés lé Dessein de Mr. Caucig, Professeur de l’Academie J. R. des arts á Vienne”, verso with inscription, signed on the bottom right K. Thieme-Becker, XVI, p 532: Claudius Herr, miniature painter etc., son of Johann, (b. Vienna 1775), up to 1806 mainly small pieces (like dejeuners), from 1806 in particular plates with the entire well decorated with a painting, often mythological scenes, from 1816 serving platters and porcelain panels based on old masters. Emperor Franz enjoyed giving his work as gifts, with many ending up in England. Many of his pieces are in public or private collections.

Artistic quality and pictorial concept stand up to comparison with Angelika Kauffmann, (Chur 17411807 Rome),.
