The landscapist Bernhard Gottfried Manskirch was appointed court painter to Clement Wenceslaus of Saxony, Elector of Trier, in 1769. In 1788 he joined the Cologne painters’ guild. He painted decorative landscapes in the style of 17th-century Netherlandish artists.
