The present painting is an oil sketch for Grasmaier’s altarpiece painted in 1727 for the parish church of Banska Bystrica/Neusohl (Slovakia). Two years later, in 1729, Grasmair executed a panel of the same subject matter, but less detailed than the picture for Banska Bystrica, for a side altar in the basilica of Innsbruck-Wilten (J. Kronbichler, op. cit., p. 96, no. B36).
