Ferdinand Perrot studied in Paris under the maritime painter Theodore Gudin. In 1834 he exhibited at the Paris Salon for the first time, thereafter regularly exhibiting his works here. His works are predominantly depictions of landscapes set in the Bretagne and in the valley of Loire. After being called to Saint Petersburg to work for the Russian Imperial family in 1840, he executed topographical views of the Russian capital and of Finland, a Russian province at this time.
