France, c. 330 x 465 cm, second half of the 19th century, one of the characteristics of French and English carpets is that the warp threads used to be beamed widthways, the present imposing carpet in Louis XV style is in keeping with a model that dates back to 1730 and is exhibited in the Royal Swedish Collection in Stockholm, exceptionally good state of preservation with extremely deep pile wool throughout.
