Ruslan and Lyudmila is an opera in five acts, with music composed by Mikhail Glinka, and a libretto by Valerian Shirkov, based on the poem of the same name by Alexander Pushkin. The premiere took place in Saint Petersburg at the Bolshoi Kamenniy Teatr on 9 December 1842. It tells the story of Lyudmila, the daughter of the Grand Prince of Kiev, and of her fiancé Ruslan. Other characters include the evil dwarf Chernomor, who abducts Lyudmila, the good wizard Finn and the magician Naina.
