Bergmann A 100-Z 300, p. 121, cat. no. 2235, Ludwig van Beethoven (Bonn 1770-1827 Vienna) was, along with Mozart and Haydn, one of the three great composers of Viennese Classicism. Ludwig van Beethoven, German composer, came from his father’s side from a family of musicians who had immigrated from Mechlin. He became a member of the Electoral Orchestra (kurfürstliche Kapelle) in Bonn as early as 1784. In 1792 he became a pupil of Joseph Haydn in Vienna. Aristocratic connections from Bonn made it easier for him to enter the houses of the Viennese nobility, where he quickly made a name for himself as a pianist and composer. His 250th anniversary will be celebrated in 2020.
