Turkey, c. 100 x 78 cm, about 1900. An exceptional small carpet depicting falconry scenes. At the centre of the depiction is a dignitary on a camel, accompanied by a group of riders. Exotic animals, including a tiger, a jaguar, a monkey and a zebra, populate the bottom of the scene. The depiction of the camel, whose body is formed by animals and humans and whose legs consist of four hounds, is especially charming. Manufactured on cotton warp with c. 640,000 knots m/2. Thin in places and partly corroded. (VP)
