An Unusual Historicist Cabinet, - Works of Art

c. 1880/90, mainly walnut and softwood, elaborately carved support in the shape of lion heads and flowery foliage, on curved legs, surmounted by a walnut or softwood frame in horizontal format with turned fluted three-quarter columns and 2 doors (5.5 cm thick) - these with carved bas-relief depictions ("Day" and "Night") based on a model by the Danish sculptor BERTEL THORVALDSEN (1770 - 1844), richly decorated with all-round floral carvings with mascarons in the style of the Italian Renaissance ("Mannerism"), superbly carved rail in the shape of mythical creatures, central cartouche with coat of arms and artfully executed monogram with a 5-tined crown, c. 198 x 150 x 60 cm, interior with mahogany veneer, 2 interior drawers, and shelves, well-kept condition.
