The carpet renaissance that swept the Ferahan region in the second half of the 19th century was devoted to a series of formal compositions and stylistic elements developed as early as the Safavid period. The present large column carpet, with its central tree of life and four yellow-gold Persian lions, is an important example of that era. Manufactured on cotton warp with c. 500,000 knots/sqm, in good condition. (VP)
