Brussels, c. 393 x 437 cm, 17th century. A cross-woven silk and wool weaving depicting Jupiter with eagle and thunderbolts, and flying Mercury with winged helmet and the caduceus. Under them are fearsome warriors, servants and dock workers unloading goods from ships. This important mythological tapestry has a very vivid effect due to the delicacy of its execution. Several old repairs and damaged areas, corroded areas. Entirely mounted on linen. (VP)
