This carpet’s design is formally based on screenshots of video editing programs. It also shows the coordinates of Istanbul and Chang'an, a city on the Silk Road. Hussein Chalayan was born in Cyprus. He attended London’s Central St. Martins School of Art and Design, among others. He founded his own fashion label in 1994. In both 1999 and 2000, he was named British designer of the year. In 2008, the company Puma appointed him to the position of creative director. His designs are at once characterised by innovation and purism. Institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Musée de la Mode et du Textile, Palais du Louvre, Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo have already held exhibitions of his work. Hussein Chalayan is also active as a film producer.
