When his improvised plays were banned as a result of the "Norma Edict" issued by Empress Maria Theresia in 1752, Kurz saw himself having to leave Vienna, but returned to the city’s Kärntnerthortheater only two years later. The "Bernardoniaden" were also popular in aristocratic circles, reaching the peak of their popularity between 1754 and 1760.
