"Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Cosi fan tutte", 2001, with 6 woodcuts in colour on thick Japanese paper after watercolours by the artist, signed Balthus in the printer’s mark, no. 90 from the edition of 300 numbered impressions, book size 42.5 x 42 cm, the woodcuts cut and printed by Keiji Shinohara, the text set and printed on lightweight Japanese paper by Michael and Winifred Bixler, published by The Limited Editions Club/New York, 47 pages in origignal silk covers, with 3 audio CDs of the performance of 'Cosi fan tutte' directed by Hans Rosbaud at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, 7/26/1957 and an insert in original silk case, (RAC)

The watercolours were created as designs for the sets and décor of the performance of ‘Cosi fan tutte’ at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in 1950. The sets and costumes were lost;
from the surviving designs, Balthus selected 6, which were translated into coloured woodcuts by Keiji Shinohara. To get as close as possible to the graceful character of the watercolours, Shinohara used up to 36 woodblocks for one image.
