An important cabinetmakers’ guild flourished in Chiavari already in the golden age of the Maritime Republic of Genoa. The first chairs of this new generation were created at the beginning of the 19th century by Gaetano Descalzi, nicknamed „Campanino“. This name is still today synonymous with the ancestor of Chiavari chairs, world famous in their unsurpassable synthesis of lightness and strength.
