Lot No. 246

Mimmo Paladino *

(born in Paduli, Benevento in 1948)
Paesaggio, 2005, signed, dated and titled on the reverse, oil on canvas, 130 x 162 cm

This work is accompanied by a photo certificate of authenticity signed by the artist

Provenance:
European Private Collection

In observing these works, we notice how the flow of images is modulated around certain stylistic constants: the structure is almost always central, often occupied by bald heads or in any case by oval forms which can suggest the uterus, a bed, a dream, a dog curled up in sleep and the closing of one's mind to thought.

The faces are empty and impenetrable like the "neutral masks" of mime, the space is a theater curtain, the script is the memory of a personal epos whose salient features are no longer retrievable. Between the suppressed and the desired one must settle for a present also reconstructed out of Fragments. It's what Pier Giovanni Castagnoli described as "the mythical dimension of this theater wherein the artist presents himself as one adept in the art of building references.

Pier Giovanni Castagnoli in "Paladino", various authors, Nuova Alfa Editoriale, Bologna 1990, reprinted in "Italiana: dall’ Arte Povera alla Transavanguardia", edited by Tommaso Trini, Milan-Tokyo, 1994.
