The saying “hear nothing, see nothing, say nothing” is a paraphrase of an explanation of the Analects of Confucius: “If something does not conform to the law of beauty (i.e. appropriate demeanour), do not look at it (...), do not listen to it (...), do not talk about it (...), do not do it.” Carved lime wood, dark brown patinated; partly chipped and scuffed; one object (monkey with its hands to the ears) inscribed on the back of the base.
